This print depicts a man ploughing a field with his team of horses and would have been a typical farm method for centuries but died out once tractors became more affordable on Irish farms, This scene is actually a neighbour of the artist called Thomas Clarke who up until his death a few years ago continued to plough his fields in the traditional way and never owned a tractor !

Profile of the Artist Irene Woods:

An established artist who specialises in landscape paintings, and is inspired by the countryside and the beauty of nature. Irene paints well observed compositions of animals, mostly sheep and horses and these works are always in popular demand. Irene works both to commissions and as a freelance.

Commissions have come from the International Fund for Ireland, Louth Co. Council, Irish Farmers Association and Louth Leader.

As well as Castlewood House, her paintings are now included in the public and private collections in Ireland, UK, France, Belgium, Canada and the USA.
